Say hello to Giorgia, the newest addition to the Fruitful AI team. From diving into anomaly detection during her thesis to perfecting her tiramisù, she brings technical depth and creativity. We sat down with Giorgia to learn about her journey into computer vision, her approach to problem-solving, and the hobbies that keep her sharp.
Can you share a bit about your journey into computer vision and what sparked your interest?
"My journey into computer vision started somewhat unexpectedly. During my Erasmus in Brussels in late 2023, I took a course that dealt with image acquisition and processing, which I found fascinating right away."
She pursued an internship with an AI and computer vision company in Verona, bringing curiosity and limited prior experience to the role.
What has been one of your most challenging projects in computer vision so far?
"My thesis project focused on the impact of image compression on deep learning algorithms, particularly for anomaly detection. Throughout the internship, I explored novel image compression techniques, as well as their implementation and feasibility for industrial applications."
She expanded her expertise into few-shot learning, object detection, and anomaly detection — finding them captivating because of their practical relevance.
What attracted you to join Fruitful AI?
"Joining this team felt like the perfect next step. I'm someone who thrives on innovation, and working in a company with such ambitious goals excites me."
She values the opportunity to learn within a growing organization and help shape its future trajectory.
Can you describe your approach to solving complex computer-vision projects?
"When it comes to problem-solving, I'm quite methodical. I like to break challenges into smaller steps to avoid feeling overwhelmed."
She uses structured planning to turn daunting problems into manageable puzzles.
How do you see computer vision evolving in the next few years?
"As for the future of computer vision, I see it advancing rapidly, potentially reaching or even surpassing human capabilities. Researchers are constantly refining models that already perform remarkably well."
She anticipates continued breakthroughs with applications extending across industries.
Outside of work — a fun fact?
"On a more personal note, I don't have a favorite food, but I love Italian cuisine as well as Mexican and Chinese dishes. I enjoy baking too, especially a good tiramisù — which should not be a surprise, considering I'm from Treviso, the birthplace of tiramisù."
Beyond cooking, she plays piano, sings in a choir, and practices crochet and knitting. "It's important to have hobbies that are different from my work, because it helps me explore other aspects of myself and keeps my mind sharp in diverse ways."
Welcome to the team, Giorgia.
